Question by thisen: Auto body shop repair?
Any one know if this dent can be fixed by an auto bodyshop. I side swiped my neighbor’s car and put a dent just above the tire, where the body bulges outwards. The dent is about half an inch deep at its maximum, and around 12in long. This doesn’t require the whole panel (part of the hood) to be replaced, does it? This is a beat up Sentra.

Best answer:

Answer by Wolf Harper
There are shops that can repair some damage without painting.

However once the shop has to crack open a can of paint, you are guaranteed a bill of at least 0. Can’t be avoided. Auto paint is a big production. It isn’t just paint, there’s etching primers, then paint color matching, then topcoats that involve mixing 3-4 chemicals together, then often a clearcoat. The cost is insane and they earn every penny. Given the cost, if he decides he really wants it fixed, you’ll probably need to get insurance involved. Up go your rates.

I would recommend crossing the fellow’s palm with enough cash that he’s willing to just live with it.

Question by : anyone work in the auto field?
I was trying to see what types of work is out there involving working with cars. i went to school for auto body. but i don’t want to do that for a job. if anyone knows of types of jobs i would be able to get into seeing how i went to school for that it would be a big help. i know i could work as a mechanic i was wondering if there’s anything out there i could specialize in like not the average jobs people do working with cars.

Best answer:

Answer by nitrobreath2000
The field of auto mechanics is quickly being replaced with software engineers. Cars have very basic mechanical underpinnings and a whole truckload of electronic layers on top of it.

Go learn computer and electronic diagnosis. Then you can recalibrate computers and such for engine performance. That field is still growing.

Good Luck
