Question by samantha f: I need tips for painting a picture of a car.?
My boyfriends birthday is coming up, on April 28. And he has a 71 plymouth duster. I have picture of one like it, but the hood is wrong. The green car shows you the hood, but the decal in the middle of the two scoops is orange not green. Anyway, I drew the car for him for his birthday, but I don’t know how to paint the car very good. Any tips or anything you can help me with?

orange car:

Best answer:

Answer by lily potter
Well, you don’t necessarily need a background in painting to do a good job. First of all, mix your orange colour that you would want to use. With white, you could have different shades of lighter orange and with black, you can mix darker shades of orange. Sometimes you can also use red with the orange for the shadows and yellow with white and orange to use for those highlights. The same applies for the green colour. So if you want to paint the highlights of green, have a mixture of white, green and maybe a pinch of yellow. The shadow can have a mixture of blue, green and a pinch of black.

Just some advice before you start to paint. Never use a lot of black when mixing colours because it easily dominates all the other colours. That is, when you mix black with a colour, always add small amounts of black to the colour, not the colour to your black paint.
