Question by getusedtoit: What do you think of a woman working in auto body repair?
Not under the hood, just doing body work…Do you the industry is still too sexist to let a talented female into the business? My dad was into mechanics and I spent my childhood in a garage with him. But he’s no longer around to ask his opinion. What does the public say about a girl working on cars?

if she can do a great job i say no problem with it
What do you think? Answer below!

I actually prefer women working on my car. I feel like they are less prone to over charging me.
I say “you go girl!” More power to you! My friend (who is female) is a mechanic.
Their should be no difference between a guy and a girl at a work place, if you have the talent or the skill then go for it! I hope the person who you may be applying for doesnt think diffrently, but hey who knows, you might be better then some! and in fact you should feel special that you have that type of talent and if thats what you like then go for it! but yea you just got to be prepare for thoes judgefull looks and does inside conversations of your co workers but yea who cares just be yourself and be glad! and ofcourse i think a woman like that would look sexy! :) good luck!
I wouldn’t have a problem with it.
Sorry your dad isn’t around any more, but I suspect his answer would be the same as mine; if you can do the job and want to do it, then go for it.
The public, if it has a lick of sense, wants the best available technicians.
Anybody who’s arguing that girls can’t work on cars at this late date doesn’t have a lick of sense. (A friend of mine fixed the HVAC control system on her car, a problem she was told would cost upwards of $1000 to repair, for less than $100 worth of parts and about an hour’s worth of sweating in the driveway.)
And at least one dealership in this town has had a female service manager.
the name of the game is what you like doing and the heck with what anybody thinks, I don’t see a thing wrong with it if thats what you enjoy, just do your thing.
I discourage anyone considering auto body employment, just read all the questions here of people wanting their cars painted for nothing, i.e, that means you make nothing as you would work on a commission basis. Also the insurance companies dictate what they will repair and how much they pay and the shops force the bodyperson to eat it. You will also learn about “cycle times”
The auto repair industry is high production and not for craftsmen (craftperson). Benefits are almost none existent and should you not ever be able to keep up they will replace you in a second. Also you would need to invest in thousands of dollars in specialized tools.
Do yourself a favor and concentrate on a higher education and get a job where you wear clean clothes.
